About Tom Shupe
Tom Shupe – A Work in Progress Tom Shupe is a watercolorist and oil painter living with his wife and three dogs (PBGVs) on the shores of Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees in Grove, Oklahoma. Tom was born in Oklahoma City and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Creating art seemed natural for Tom from an early age. Then later, the art classes required in Architecture school (OSU) and a short break to backpack across Europe moved Tom to change schools and degrees and “Voila!” a BFA in Art from the University of Tulsa. Thirty-nine years in the pipeline/energy industry in Tulsa and Houston allowed Tom to continue the creative experience through pipeline design drafting, presentation graphics, and finally a career in GIS and cartography. Many artists past and present have inspired and continue to influence Tom. The list is long, but to name a few: Monet, Magritte, Andrew Wyeth, Georgia O’Keeffe, Richard Schmid, Cynthia Rosen, and many more. Tom has been a featured artist at the Brush and Palette Art Gallery in Grove, Oklahoma, and has shown at “Small Works” and “Member” shows at the SPIVA Center for the Arts in Joplin, Missouri. Tom’s “Blue Heron” won Best In Show at the Bartlesville Art Association’s 70th Anniversary Art Show in 2022. Many of Tom’s paintings are available at Jana Jae’s Southwest Art Gallery in Grove, Oklahoma. Tom continues his artistic adventure observing the world around him, painting weekly and attending workshops and classes. Tom’s work is representational, and he will paint anything from flora fauna to all things with heart beats and at times he breaks the rules. Tom creates paintings for himself while hoping you will enjoy them.
